Charles is a licensed companion who is good friends with the first victim of the series, another LC named Sharon DeBlass. Eve Dallas (the main protagonist) is friends with him, although she mostly disapproves of his profession - in turn, he doesn't approve of hers.

He has dated several of his clients on a long-term basis, but none of the relationships as of the latest book (that I've read, which is born in death) have lasted more than a month or so. He enjoys his profession and shows no inclination to change it; however he does lament that he cannot as yet have a real, exclusive relationship with someone and continue to work.

Charles has had drug issues as a result of being an LC trainee, in which period he was injected several times with various sexually stimulating substances; namely the street drugs Whore and Rabbit. As a result of this he doesn't use drugs of any sort with the exception of alcohol, and that only with the caveat that he will not get completely drunk around anyone he doesn't absolutely trust.

Charles will accept business from anyone, after he's made sure they're not likely to abuse him or themselves in the course of their dalliance, but he does now knowingly break up established relationships unless consent is given from all involved partners. Sex is often a form of stress relief for Charles, although he doesn't like to take advantage of anyone who doesn't return the affectation in practicing this.

He is very often very difficult to pry information out of, unless he is on his way to very drunk or is injured or drugged; by the same token he is hard to scare out of those circumstances. However, he does tend to have very disturbing nightmares when he sleeps alone, which is why he looks for a partner when and where he can to keep both loneliness and the dreams at bay.

He was sexually assaulted--raped--by the trainer he had for his probationary period as an LC, though that didn't deter him from taking the job still. He has no other trade training and as such doesn't complain about the job he has, with the exception of the aforementioned lack of relationships.

Charles has curly black hair, rarely too messy at any time though he doesn't style it too much unless he is requested to; he wears good quality clothes and favors the ones that show off his well-disciplined body. He is a clean-lined, spartan type--the descriptor, not the nationality. He is also a licensed companion, available for sex, or merely company, but more often than not, sex.
